Ximino Uses

How Does It Work?

Like other tetracycline antibiotics, Ximino interferes with the ability of bacteria to make proteins, which impedes bacterial growth and multiplication. It is unknown, however, if this action is responsible for its effects on acne.

It is not exactly clear how Ximino works to treat acne. It is thought the medication affects bacteria that cause acne and reduces inflammation associated with acne, resulting in fewer and less-inflamed pimples and red bumps.

Is It Safe for Children to Use Ximino?

This drug is approved for use in children as young as 12 years old. This medicine can cause permanent tooth staining (yellow, gray, or brown teeth) if used in children during tooth development (under the age of eight).

Can Older Adults Use It?

Ximino has not been adequately studied for acne treatment in adults aged 65 years and older, so it is unknown if they respond differently than younger age groups. In general, it is recommended that older adults start with a lower Ximino dosage.

What About Off-Label Ximino Uses?

On occasion, healthcare providers may recommend medicines for treating something other than the officially approved uses. This is called an "off-label" use. At this time, there are no universally accepted off-label uses for Ximino. However, other minocycline medications are approved for other uses.
