Ximino Drug Interactions

Bismuth Subsalicylate
Bismuth subsalicylate may decrease the absorption of Ximino into the body, potentially making it less effective. Take Ximino at least two hours before, or six hours after, taking bismuth subsalicylate to avoid this reaction.

Penicillins
Ximino may decrease the effectiveness of penicillin antibiotics. The manufacturer of Ximino recommends that people avoid taking these medications together. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before taking Ximino with a penicillin antibiotic.

Quinapril
Quinapril may decrease the amount of Ximino absorbed into the body, potentially making it less effective. This interaction is thought to occur because quinapril capsules contain magnesium, which may bind to Ximino in the digestive tract. It is a good idea to separate your doses of quinapril and Ximino by at least two hours to avoid this potential interaction.

Retinoids
Combining Ximino with some retinoid medications may increase the risk of a dangerous condition known as intracranial hypertension (increased pressure in the skull). It is recommended that certain retinoids be avoided shortly before, during, or shortly after Ximino treatment. Talk to your healthcare provider about this interaction before taking Ximino with a retinoid. This is probably most important for retinoids that are taken by mouth, rather than retinoids applied to the skin.

Sucralfate
Sucralfate can bind to Ximino in the digestive tract, decreasing the amount of Ximino absorbed into the body. This can make Ximino less effective. It is best to take Ximino at least two hours before sucralfate to help minimize this interaction.

Typhoid Vaccine
Antibiotics, including Ximino, may decrease the effectiveness of the typhoid vaccine. This interaction only occurs with the oral typhoid vaccine. It is generally recommended that the oral typhoid vaccine be postponed for at least one day after stopping Ximino.
