Ximino Drug Interactions

Ximino Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Ximino is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Aluminum, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, or Zinc Products
Taking Ximino with products that contain aluminum, calcium, iron, magnesium, or zinc, including antacids and supplements, may decrease the amount of Ximino absorbed into the body, potentially making it less effective. To help minimize the risk for this interaction, take Ximino at least two hours before, or six hours after, taking these products.

Aspirin
Taking Ximino with aspirin may decrease the amount of Ximino absorbed into the body, potentially making it less effective. This interaction is mostly a concern with buffered aspirin products. Take Ximino two hours before, or six hours after, taking buffered aspirin to help avoid this interaction.

Atazanavir
Ximino may decrease the levels of atazanavir in your body, potentially making it less effective. Talk to your healthcare provider about this potential interaction before taking these medications together.

Bile Acid Sequestrants
Bile acid sequestrants may bind to Ximino in the digestive tract, decreasing the amount absorbed into the body. To help minimize this interaction, separate your doses of Ximino and a bile acid sequestrant by at least two hours.

Birth Control Pills
There is a possibility that Ximino may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills, which could increase your risk for breakthrough bleeding or unintentional pregnancy. The manufacturer of Ximino recommends that women use a second form of birth control during Ximino treatment. There is considerable controversy as to whether antibiotics, such as Ximino, actually interact with birth control pills (see Antibiotics and Birth Control Pills).
