Solodyn Acne Medication

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the medication Solodyn® (minocycline hydrochloride) for acne that causes red, inflamed, pus-filled bumps. It is not effective on acne that only causes whiteheads and blackheads. It works by interfering with bacteria's ability to make protein, but may also work in unknown ways.

As a tetracycline acne medication, Solodyn may not be appropriate for everyone. For example, people with vision problems or decreased liver or kidney function might need to consider a different treatment option. In addition, potentially serious side effects are possible, and some people are at greater risk for such problems than others.
