For acne that causes red, inflamed, pus-filled bumps, your healthcare provider may recommend Solodyn® (minocycline hydrochloride). This drug comes in the form of an extended-release tablet, which means it only needs to be taken once a day. The strength your healthcare provider prescribes will depend largely on your weight. For example:
99 to 109 pounds -- 45 mg
110 to 131 pounds -- 55 mg
132 to 157 pounds -- 65 mg
158 to 186 pounds -- 80 mg
187 to 212 pounds -- 90 mg
213 to 243 pounds -- 105 mg
244 to 276 pounds -- 115 mg
277 to 300 pounds -- 135 mg.
You may find that taking Solodyn tablets with food helps prevent things like nausea and esophageal ulcers. However, do not adjust your dose without talking to your healthcare provider first. You can expect to take this medicine for about 12 weeks.
