Minocin for Acne

Minocin® (minocycline hydrochloride) is a prescription antibiotic used to treat several conditions, including acne. Minocin may be prescribed to adults and children (as young as 8 years old) who have severe acne. It is thought to help control acne by curbing the growth of bacteria and reducing inflammation.

Minocin is part of a class of drugs called tetracyclines. It works by decreasing bacteria's ability to make protein, which bacteria need to live. This activity does not directly kill the bacteria, but it does inhibit their growth and multiplication, which gives the immune system a chance to fight the infection.

Although most people tolerate Minocin well, it is not suitable for everyone. Make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medications you are taking (including vitamins and non-prescription medicines), as well as any other medical conditions you may have.
