More Info on Epiduo Indications

How Does Epiduo Work?

Epiduo contains two different acne medications:
Retinoids are chemically related to vitamin A. Some other well-known retinoids include Retin-A® and Accutane®.
Retinoids are thought to work by suppressing inflammation and slowing down the rapid growth of skin cells. This rapid skin cell growth can cause an accumulation of skin cells in the follicle, clogging the follicles and leading to acne.
Benzoyl peroxide is thought to kill P. acnes, the bacteria that contribute to causing acne. It also helps soften and remove the outer layer of the skin, which may help open up clogged pores. By combining benzoyl peroxide with a retinoid, Epiduo can both treat current pimples and help prevent future breakouts from occurring.

Can Children Use It?

Epiduo is approved for use in individuals who are at least nine years old. Talk with your child's healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using Epiduo in children.

Off-Label Uses for Epiduo

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Epiduo for something other than acne. This would be known as an "off-label" use. For example, the treatment of keratosis pilaris (a common ailment that causes "bumpy skin," often on the back of the arms) is a possible off-label use of this medication.
