An Introduction to Epiduo Side Effects
As with any medication,
Epiduo® (
adapalene/benzoyl peroxide) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the medication will have problems. Most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of Epiduo's potential side effects. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)
Common Side Effects of Epiduo
Epiduo has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in people using Epiduo were carefully documented.
The most commonly reported side effects of Epiduo in clinical trials were skin reactions, including:
- A burning or stinging sensation -- in up to 59 percent of people
- Dryness -- up to 55 percent
- Scaling -- up to 47 percent
- Redness -- up to 41 percent.
Side effects are more likely to occur in the first four weeks of use, are usually mild to moderate in intensity, and tend to improve over time. In clinical studies, the side effects were the most severe in the first seven days.
