Epiduo Dosage

There is only one standard dosage of Epiduo -- a small amount of gel applied to the affected areas once daily. It is important to know that your acne might temporarily get worse when you first start using Epiduo. It can take up to a couple of months to notice a significant improvement in your acne.

An Introduction to Dosing With Epiduo

There is only one strength of Epiduo® (adapalene/benzoyl peroxide) and only one standard way of using it. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosing unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Epiduo Dosage for Acne

Epiduo comes as a 0.1%/2.5% gel. The standard dose for treating acne is to apply a thin layer to the affected area of the face and/or trunk once daily after washing. A pea-sized amount should be used for each affected area.

Although some people may be able to see good results by just treating a few problem areas, you will probably find that you get better results by applying the product to the entire area. Just make sure to avoid the delicate skin around the eyes and lips. Epiduo should be used on a daily basis to help prevent pimples from forming, not just when you have an outbreak.

When you first start using Epiduo, your acne might temporarily get worse before it gets better. This is due to the action of the medication on acne lesions that were hidden beneath the skin. It is important to try to "stick it out" for a least two months or so, when you will have a much better idea of whether this medication is working for you.

General Information on Using Epiduo

Some considerations for people using Epiduo include the following:

  • Epiduo comes in the form of a gel. It is applied to the affected area of the skin once a day.

  • Epiduo can be used in the morning or evening.

  • Before applying Epiduo, wash your face and/or other affected areas with a mild, soap-free cleanser and pat dry.

  • Avoid the sensitive area around the eyes, lips, and mouth when applying this medication.

  • Do not apply more than a small amount or use this medication more than once a day. A pea-sized amount on the affected areas should be sufficient. Using too much of this medicine increases the risk of skin irritation, but does not improve its effectiveness. Epiduo will not work faster if you use more.

  • You should wash your hands after applying this medication to avoid getting it in your eyes or on your lips.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure when you use Epiduo, as you will burn more easily. If you do go out in the sun, make sure to use sunscreen and wear protective clothing, such as a hat. Your healthcare provider can recommend a good sunscreen that will be appropriate for your skin type and will not worsen your acne.

  • Epiduo can bleach hair or colored fabric. Avoid contact with colored clothing.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.

  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage or Epiduo dosing in general, please talk with your healthcare provider, nurse, or pharmacist.
