Dynacin Dosage

Dynacin comes in tablet form and is usually taken twice a day, or, in some cases, four times a day. The amount your healthcare provider prescribes will be based on the condition being treated, how well your kidneys work, and other factors. In all cases, Dynacin should be taken with a full glass of liquid; this reduces the risk of throat ulcers or irritation.

An Introduction to Your Dose of Dynacin

The dosage of Dynacin® (minocycline hydrochloride) your healthcare provider recommends will depend on a number of factors, including:
  • The medical condition being treated
  • Your weight (in children)
  • Your kidney function.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Dynacin Dosage for Bacterial Infections

The usual dose of Dynacin for the treatment of bacterial infections is an initial one-time dose of 200 mg followed by 100 mg twice daily (about every 12 hours). The length of treatment will depend on the infection being treated, but is normally between 4 and 15 days. However, treatment may extend for as long as eight weeks for certain infections.
In some cases, your healthcare provider may recommend that you take the medicine four times a day. In these cases, the usual dose is an initial one-time dosage of 100 or 200 mg followed by 50 mg four times a day.
Dosing in children is based on the child's weight. The normal Dynacin dosage in children eight years of age and older is an initial dose of 4 mg per kg body weight (about 1.8 mg per pound) followed by 2 mg per kg twice a day (about 0.9 mg per pound). A child's dose should not exceed the normal adult dose. Dynacin is not recommended in children younger than eight years old because of the risk of permanent tooth discoloration.
Dosing adjustments may be needed in people with kidney disease. In general, it is recommended that people with inadequate kidney function receive no more than 200 mg of Dynacin in one day.
