Doryx® (
doxycycline hyclate delayed release) is a prescription drug approved for the treatment and prevention of various types of infections. It comes in tablet form and is available in several different strengths, including:
The recommended Doryx dosage for most types of bacterial infections in adults is 100 mg to 200 mg per day for 7 to 14 days. People taking this medication to prevent
malaria often take 100 mg daily. The recommended Doryx dose in people who have been exposed to
anthrax or who have a diagnosed active anthrax infection is 100 mg, taken twice a day for 60 days.
Doryx dosing for children is based on the child's weight, usually about 1 to 2 mg per pound of body weight per day. Children weighing more than 100 pounds should receive the standard adult dosage. Since Doryx is available in limited strengths and comes in only 150 mg tablets, 100 mg tablets, and 75 mg tablets, it may not be suitable for some children.
