Doryx® (
doxycycline hyclate delayed release) is a prescription antibiotic approved for treating and preventing several different conditions.
Adults being treated for most bacterial infections typically take a 100 mg
Doryx tablet once daily for 7 to 14 days. For chronic or more serious infections, longer treatment may be required. Doryx dosing for children is determined by the child's weight, usually about 1 to 2 mg per pound of body weight per day.
The recommended dose of Doryx for preventing
malaria in adults is 100 mg daily. For children, the dosage is 2 mg per kilogram of body weight (about 0.9 mg per pound), not to exceed 100 mg per day. Treatment should begin a day or two prior to travel, taken throughout your stay in the area of concern, and continued for 28 days after you have left the noted area.
For people who have been exposed to
anthrax or who have a diagnosed active anthrax infection, it is generally recommended to take 100 mg twice a day for 60 days. The recommended dosage for children is 1 mg per pound of body weight twice a day for 60 days.
