The oral forms of
clindamycin actually contain clindamycin hydrochloride (
Cleocin®). The other forms (such as the IV form, skin products, and vaginal products) come in the phosphate form. Clindamycin hydrochloride is a type of antibiotic used to treat a variety of different infections.
As a lincosamide antibiotic, the medication works by interfering with the bacteria's ability to make proteins. Without these proteins, bacteria are unable to grow and multiply.
