Zenatane Acne Medication

ZenataneTM (isotretinoin) is taken twice daily to treat severe nodular acne that has not responded to other treatments. In many cases, a single 15- or 20-week course of Zenatane can clear up this form of acne permanently. Although it is an extremely effective acne medicine, Zenatane has strict regulations for its sale and use, as it can cause severe complications, particularly if used during pregnancy.

This generic version of Accutane® works by reducing the size of the sebaceous glands, which produce an oily substance that contributes to acne. The medication comes in capsule form and is approved for use in adults and children as young as 12 years old.

Although most people tolerate this drug well, side effects are possible and may include hearing problems, depression, and skin dryness. Fortunately, most reactions to this drug tend to be minor and easy to treat.
