Dynacin Antibiotic Information

Dynacin® (minocycline hydrochloride) is a prescription antibiotic used to treat a variety of different bacterial infections, as well as severe acne. It comes in tablet form and is approved for use in adults and children over the age of eight. The medication is usually taken twice a day, although in some cases it may need to be taken four times daily. Diarrhea, decreased appetite, and nausea are some of the possible side effects.

Dynacin is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before prescribing this antibiotic. For example, it's important for your healthcare provider to know if you have:

  • Kidney disease, such as kidney failure (renal failure)
  • Liver disease, such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, or liver failure
  • Any allergies, including to medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives.
