Differin Medication Information

Differin® (adapalene) is available only by prescription and is approved for treating acne. This medication is not appropriate for everyone; your healthcare provider needs complete information on your medical history and what other medicines you are taking before prescribing Differin.

Although many people do not have any problems while using this drug, Differin can cause side effects, such as dry skin, burning, and scaling. If negative reactions do occur, they tend to be mild and easily treated.

This drug comes in the form of a gel, lotion, and cream, and is applied to the affected area once daily (just before bedtime). As a type of retinoid medication, it works by reducing inflammation and slowing down the rapid growth of skin cells.
