Clindamycin Medication Information
As a type of antibiotic, clindamycin is an active ingredient found in many prescription medicines. Clindamycin belongs to a group of antibiotics known as lincosamides, and it works by interfering with bacteria's ability to make proteins. Without these proteins, bacteria are unable to grow and multiply.
While most people have no problems with this medication, it is not suitable for everyone. Therefore, it's important to review the prescribing information on clindamycin medications before starting treatment. For example, you may not be able to take this drug if you have liver disease, colitis, or frequent yeast infections. Also, you may not be able to safely use clindamycin if you are currently taking certain medications, including some vitamins, herbal supplements, and nonprescription medicines.
Clindamycin medications are available in many different forms, such as capsules, lotions, gels, vaginal suppositories, or an oral solution. Diarrhea, skin irritation, and dry skin are among the more commonly reported side effects. For more information on clindamycin, talk to your pharmacist or healthcare provider.
