Generic Accutane

There are currently several generic versions of Accutane (isotretinoin) available. These generic Accutane products are sold under the names Amnesteem, Claravis, and Sotret. The FDA has assigned all of these generics with an "AB" rating, which means that they should be equivalent to the brand-name medication. However, these types of generic Accutane may have different inactive ingredients from the brand-name medication, such as fillers or dyes.

Accutane Acne Medication

Is a Generic Version of Accutane Available?

Accutane^® (isotretinoin) is a prescription acne medication. It is only reserved for severe cases that have not responded well to other acne treatments, as Accutane can cause serious side effects and birth defects.

Brand-name Accutane is made by Roche Laboratories, Inc. However, the patent has expired, and generic Accutane is now available.

Names of Generic Accutane

For most generic medications, the manufacturers choose to use the standard "generic" name. However, they are not required to do so and may choose to create a new name for their generic medication. This is the case with generic Accutane, which is available under the following names:

Amnesteem™
Claravis™
Sotret^®.

Amnesteem 20 mg
Amnesteem 40 mg
Claravis 10 mg
Claravis 20 mg

Sotret 30 mg
Sotret 40 mg.

Notice that Claravis and Sotret (but not Accutane or Amnesteem) are available in a 30-mg strength.
