Acanya® (clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide) is designed to treat various types of acne. What kind of acne does Acanya treat, specifically? It is approved to treat mild, moderate, or severe acne (including blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and pustules) in adults and children as young as 12 years old. Specifically, Acanya is used to kill certain acne-causing bacteria known as Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes).
As with many acne medications, Acanya can make the skin appear worse before it gets better. However, if your acne does not improve within six to eight weeks, talk to your healthcare provider about whether this is the right acne treatment for you.
